Window Surveys

Our impartial, no-obligation window survey is a meeting with an experienced tradesperson at your property who will answer any questions you may have, appraise your existing windows and their condition and consult with you about options for future works.

After the survey, we will provide you with a Window Report with all relevant details gathered during the survey. You can then use the report for your own reference and as a foundation to contact interested parties for quotation purposes.

Sash Window Basics

Many people, even having lived in a property for a number of years, are unsure of what a sash and case window is, the design and how they operate. The windows may have been painted and fixed shut or don’t open properly. They may be draughty or subject to degradation if not maintained. If you are unsure about aspects of your windows and would like a better understanding, our surveyor can cover the basics with you.

    • Basics of sash windows. How they operate, methods of construction and the various components etc
    • Different forms and glazing layouts
    • Historic glazing
    • Common problems
    • Different timbers/wood
    • Moulding details

        Survey of Each Window

After discussion, our surveyor will look at each window to assess the condition, note basic sizes, layout, and take photos. The surveyor will require access to the windows to gather this info, so ornaments, plants, furniture etc may need moving. Access to each elevation of the building to take photos is preferred but not essential. Elevation photos are useful for reports, especially when dealing with local authorities.

        After Survey Report

After the survey, we will compile and send you a report containing all relevant details of your existing windows. The survey report comprises elements such as the style and format, overall sizes and details of sections and componentry. There will also be a cover page with works you seek to have undertaken in the future and your required specifications. You can then forward this report to window companies/installers to obtain provisional quotations based on the information included.
